Fall Bucketlist

If you know me you know I’m all about fall. I want to share my fall bucketlist with you all. Not only do I love the cooler weather and upcoming holidays fall brings, I love that there are so many activities and things to do in the fall months. Here it is- I would love to know what you guys like to do in the fall.

1. Pumpkin patch. This is kind of a no-brainer for me. Fall just isn’t the same without a trip to buy some pumpkins. I especially love the patches that include a petting zoo and corn maze. Two of my personal favorite pumpkin patches are Baker’s Acres in Tishomingo and Cornerstone Ranch in Ada.

2. Attend a college football game. Check! One of my favorite things about fall is football. I attended OSU for a few semesters in undergrad and got my graduate degree from OU. So I feel compelled to root for both teams. To me, there’s nothing better than a bustling gameday Saturday morning in a college town.

3. Decorate for fall. This may seem like an obvious choice for me, considering I start decorating for fall in August, ha!

4. Eat/drink something pumpkin-spiced or apple flavored. Again, this is another obvious choice for me. I literally live off of Starbucks pumpkin spice latte. I cannot get enough. I’m always in line the first day they begin serving them and drink them nonstop throughout the season. Here is a delicious copy cat recipe to try at home.

5. Fall fashion. This one is key! What is better than fall fashion? Nothing! Who loves to snuggle up in an oversized sweater and leggings? Everyone!  Did you gain a couple of extra pounds throughout summer? No one knows! My favorite trend this fall is the bell sleeved sweater. I’m loving this one from Nordstrom

6. Movie night. The cooler weather and shorter days make for prime movie watching conditions. Snuggle up with your boo and watch some Hocus Pocus, would ya?! Or something scarier if you wish. My favorite show to watch in the fall is the same show I watch year-round, which is Gilmore Girls. It is almost always fall on Gilmore Girls. I think that’s a reason I love it so much. I’m especially excited for the Netflix revival coming Nov. 25th. Actually, I’m not sure excited accurately describes it. I feel like obsessed may be the most appropriate term.

7. Haunted house. I love a good haunted house. Currently searching for one if you have any suggestions!

8. Try a new recipe. I’m much more likely to turn on the stove and do work in the kitchen in the fall. I’m hoping to try this soon- White chicken chili

9. Take a trip to see  fall foliage. This really might be my favorite. For the past 3 years, Billy and I have roadtripped to see the aspens change in Colorado. They are breathtaking. We have both started new jobs recently so we didn’t have the vacation time to take a big fall trip. However, we are going to Beavers Bend State Park with some friends. I’m so looking forward to the pretty scenery and good company.

10. Visit your loved ones. Not to sound clichè, but fall can be a really busy time. I’m making sure to set aside plenty of time to visit home to see family and friends.

Life Update

Hey guys! So, this is definitely going to be one of those cliché life update posts. I feel like it’s an inevitable post when you haven’t blogged in a good 10 months. So if you don’t already know what’s going on in our lives, let me break it down for you. I’m just going to hit the highlights. It may not be super exciting to read but I feel it’s necessary after being gone for so long.

May 2015 (which is probably the last time I blogged) I finished up my practicum with DaVita Dialysis Center and graduated from the OU MSW(Master of Social Work) Advanced Standing Program. I graduated on a Saturday and started my very first full-time job at Deaconess Hospital in OKC the next Monday. I was really eager to get out into the professional world. I obtained my LMSW, which is the masters level social work license, currently working on my LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), this license will give me the ability to provide therapy, diagnose mental disorders, and provide a more hands on experience with clients, helping them on a deeper level. I get a lot of questions from people who aren’t super familiar with what social work is or what we do so I want to clarify that a little bit. Currently, I’m doing psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, linking patients with appropriate resources, and coordination of care. What this looks like on a typical day, is constantly changing. That is one thing I’ve loved about hospital social work, my days are never the same and they’re never boring. Daily I’m helping patients and families adjust to illnesses and new diagnoses, I’m locating inpatient psychiatric beds for homicidal/suicidal patients, I’m finding patients shelter, clothing, or their next meal, I’m facilitating adoptions, and sometimes for our elderly patients, I’m visiting with them just so they can know they’re not alone. Luckily, I share the social work responsibilities with an amazing social worker, mentor, and friend, so I’m not taking it on by myself.

Side note: When I originally started this blog, I had this vision that it would be this cool balance of fashion and social work (which classes to take, the best social work programs, heartwarming client success stories, etc.) But it became more about the clothes, as I was unsure how to protect the confidentiality of the clients I serve, while talking about my work. However, I think after almost a year of professional experience, I’m learning the appropriate/safe ways to do that. Okay that’s a long side-note but I just wanted to clarify why the word therapist is even included in the name of my blog. One of the core components of social work practice is confidentiality, so I knew I couldn’t talk social work on here until I became comfortable enough to know I was doing it in the right way. Fast forward a couple of months from starting my job, I was driving from Norman to NW OKC every morning at 6 a.m. to get to work by 7:30. If you know me, you know mornings are not at all my thing and this was a struggle. Not to mention I got in my very first wreck on the drive home one day. After that, Billy and I decided to move closer to my job to decrease my driving time. We found a cute, quiet community in west Edmond and decided to go for it. We moved in August 2015. So far, we really like Edmond, but we miss Norman. The atmosphere on game day, the family and friends we have there are really hard to beat.

In September we met our best friends in our favorite place, Crested Butte, CO for a little getaway. I think that’s the only travelling we’ve done. We’re currently in the process of planning a beach trip. This past November, Billy started a new job, which he loves. He works at a local bank, all of his coworkers are young, still in college or fresh out of college men. So he’s working in a new industry and building new friendships. I’m so happy for him. We are expecting a new niece and new nephew. Both of Billy’s SIL’s are pregnant, so it’s a really exciting time. We celebrated the holidays in Tish with the Gilbert and Reinhart families then in Norman with my mom.

We’re looking forward to continuing to settle into our strides professionally and personally. We’ll be celebrating our 5th anniversary in February with Thunder tickets (shout out to my dad for the Christmas gift). I’m going to work to share more social work and fashion on here and move towards the vision I originally had for this space. I hope you guys stick around and follow along!

Year 3

Image

So, you may have already noticed, because I’ve been blowing up social media with my gift… But today, Billy and I have officially been together for three years. I say officially, because we’ve been besties since kindergarten, dated briefly in high school, and talked on and off most of our lives. There is something so special about dating your best friend. Not only have we been dating for three years, we started living together five months into our relationship. A lot of people have opinions on cohabitation and think it’s a bad idea, but for us, it’s been the best experience. It’s one of those “have your cake and eat it too” kind of situations. One of the many perks to dating a lifelong best friend is that because we have been close for so long, we have quite the arsenal of pictures to bust out for Throwback Thursday, or really any occasion. Here are some of my favs. Happy Anniversary, babe!
